Frequently asked questions
OtterTally, clearly.
A quick guide to OtterTally’s RevenueCat connection, supported platform, and revenue views.
What is OtterTally?
A native macOS menu-bar companion for checking revenue, trends, and project performance from Stripe and RevenueCat.
Who is it for?
Independent developers, solo founders, and small app businesses that use Stripe, RevenueCat, or both.
What can I see?
Revenue totals, period comparisons, subscription metrics, trends, account or project detail where supported, and the freshness of the latest data. Some detailed Insights and Activity features require Premium.
How does it connect to RevenueCat?
OtterTally uses RevenueCat OAuth with read-only reporting access for the information it displays. The app does not ask you to paste a RevenueCat API key.
How does it connect to Stripe?
You can connect Stripe with a restricted API key. The key is stored in your Mac’s Keychain, and reporting requests are made directly from the app to Stripe.
Does OtterTally combine Stripe and RevenueCat totals?
It combines only supported totals when provider data, currency, and overlap checks allow a safe comparison. It keeps currencies and provider-specific metrics separate when they cannot be reliably combined.
Where is my reporting data stored?
Provider credentials are stored in your Mac’s Keychain. The reporting archive is encrypted and stored locally; it is not synchronized through OtterTally’s servers.
Which macOS version do I need?
OtterTally requires macOS 14 or later.
What does OtterTally cost?
The free version includes the menu-bar glance, basic Overview, Sources, and Account. Premium is $2.99 monthly, $9.99 yearly, or $19.99 for a lifetime license. The $12.99 lifetime launch offer is for the first 100 customers.
Can I use it offline?
The app can show its most recently synchronized local data and its age. Provider refresh requires an internet connection.
